Incorruptible Us Member Creates Powerful PSA for NJ Teens in Quarantine

By: Wellspring Staff

The last several months have been difficult on all of us, especially students who have been isolated from their friends during the COVID-19 quarantine. This extended isolation has taken a toll on our youth's mental health, and many teens are unsure of where to turn during these trying times.

In honor of National Mental Health Month, the New Jersey Department of Health, along with the 2nd Floor Youth Helpline, AtlantiCare, Empower Somerset, and the Center for Prevention and Counseling, sponsored a creative contest last month for New Jersey high school students. The "Quaran-teen-ed PSA Contest" asked entrants to create a video, written piece, or digital poster that expresses how they are staying occupied during quarantine, and to spread the message that we are all "apart but not alone."

Nora Abdelfattah, a rising South Brunswick High School senior and an Incorruptible Us youth advisory board member who has worked with our Coalition for Healthy Communities, created and entered an animated video to the Quaran-teen-ed contest.

Through her talents with digital animation, Nora shares a message of hope and encourages her fellow New Jersey teens to pursue their passions, do what they love, dream big, and stay connected to their support system:

"It can be hard at times: being isolated and so far away from so many of our friends and family. Sometimes, the gloominess can seem endless. During times like this, it is more important than ever to make sure we continue to take care of ourselves and those around us.

So keep pursuing your passions. Keep doing what you love. Keep dreaming big. And remember, even though we may be apart… We are not alone.

If you, a loved one or a friend are struggling with Mental Health Issues, please call [2nd Floor Youth Helpline] at: 888-322-2228. There is Always Hope."
