Job Title: School-Based Mental Health Clinician (Middle School Program) employed by Wellspring Center for Prevention

Location: Carteret, NJ

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary Range: $52,000 – $65,000 annually

Reports to: School Based Clinical Services Director

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School-Based Mental Health Clinician to join our team in providing high-quality mental health services to middle school students. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the emotional, behavioral, and social well-being of students, helping them to thrive academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual and Group Counseling: Provide individual and group therapy sessions to middle school students, addressing a wide range of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, peer relationships, and behavioral challenges.
  • Crisis Intervention: Respond to mental health crises within the school, providing immediate support and working with school staff and families to develop crisis management plans.
  • Assessment and Treatment Planning: Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and monitor progress toward therapeutic goals.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, school counselors, administrators, and parents to create a supportive environment that promotes the mental health and well-being of students.
  • Consultation: Offer consultation and training to school staff on mental health topics, including identifying students in need of support and implementing classroom strategies to support student wellness.
  • Prevention Education: Develop and deliver prevention education programs on topics such as bullying, substance abuse, stress management, and healthy relationships. Collaborate with school staff to integrate these programs into the school curriculum and promote a culture of wellness.
  • Case Management: Coordinate care with external providers, including psychiatrists, community mental health agencies, and social services, to ensure continuity of care for students.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential records of all services provided, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: LSW, LAC required. Licensed or license-eligible in the state of NJ as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Experience providing mental health services to children and adolescents, preferably in a school or community-based setting.
  • Supervisory Certification: Current Supervisory Certification to provide clinical supervision to interns or associate-level clinicians a plus.
  • Skills: Strong assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills. Ability to manage crises effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of the unique developmental needs and challenges of middle school students. Familiarity with evidence-based practices in child and adolescent mental health.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a school setting.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care practices.
