Girl Talk brought in the new year by hosting a vision board party. The end of the year is usually a time for reflection. Many ask themselves, “What goals did I accomplish? Did I save up as much money as I wanted to? Did I lose weight? Did I quit an old bad habit?” Whether they accomplished their goals or not, the new year typically sparks motivation in people to set a new list of goals to achieve. Unfortunately, as the year goes on it’s very easy to get caught up in life’s distractions and lose motivation for those goals that you were working towards. This is why a visual representation, like a vision board, is so powerful. The idea is that you find images or quotes that speak to you and your goals. Whether it’s related to academics, health, travel, hobbies, family and friends, the most important part is that it’s meaningful to you. When a vision board is put in a place that you will see it every day, it will serve as a daily reminder of your goals and, hopefully, as a result help you feel inspired and motivated.

Girl Talk’s vision board party had 12 girls in attendance. For an hour and half we ate, listened to music, and set out to manifest our new year. They were tasked to focus on 2024 versus a longer timeline and to make it as realistic and achievable as possible. That doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with cutting out an image of a new car, however for a high school student, maybe it’s a good idea to exclude the mansion in Beverly Hills, for now at least. A few common themes were travel, health and self-care, saving money, pets, and positive affirmations. For some, thinking about their future and the goals they want to achieve came easy. For others, it took time. One student found herself gravitating towards quotes and affirmations. She was very selective when it came to picking images and only wanted ones that resonated with her, and that’s just what making vision boards are about! When we set realistic meaningful goals, we are more likely to follow through with them.

This was a great activity to start off the new year. The girls raved about how much fun they had and are looking forward to what else Girl Talk has to offer!
