Celebrate Healthy Aging With WISE
The Wellness Initiative for Senior Education (WISE) program helps older adults make healthy lifestyle choices, manage stress, and understand how aging affects their physical and emotional well-being. This award-winning program empowers participants to take charge of their health while connecting with others in a fun, supportive setting.
What You’ll Learn
WISE is a six-lesson wellness and prevention program designed specifically for adults age 55 and older. Led by trained prevention specialists, each weekly session lasts two to three hours and includes breakfast or lunch.
Through interactive discussions—not lectures—participants explore:
- How nutrition and exercise contribute to healthy aging
- Safe and effective medication use
- Managing stress and recognizing depression
- The impact of alcohol and substance use on the aging body
- Building resilience and social connection
Each session encourages conversation, shared experiences, and practical tools that participants can bring home and apply in daily life.
Why It Works
WISE was created by the New Jersey Prevention Network (NJPN) and is implemented locally by community organizations like Wellspring Center for Prevention. The program uses proven adult-learning methods to make health education engaging, relatable, and effective.
Proven Results
Participants who complete the WISE program report:
- Greater knowledge of how aging affects the body, including the metabolism of alcohol and medications
- Improved health behaviors related to exercise, nutrition, and medication safety
- Increased awareness of depression and early warning signs
- Enhanced social support and connection with peers
