Description: In this educational presentation, attendees will gain basic understanding:
- The Gut-Brain-Axis’ (Enteric Nervous System), role between gut health and mental health/mood disorders.
- How different substance use disorders will impact the gut differently.
- General tips on how to begin restoring gut function.
- How to encourage production and balance of neurotransmitters like Serotonin, Dopamine, GABA, naturally, using specific foods and nutrients.
- Recommended food and diet changes in early recovery to help reduce PAWS (Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome).
- Discussion of nutrient bioavailability and different diets such as animal based versus plant based.
- Whether or not it is advised to implement diets such as Low-Carb, Intermittent Fasting, Keto, Veganism, etc. in early recovery.
- Alternative testing options for mineral tissues analysis.
- Connections between core minerals and their impact on mental health (e.g., Vitamin B12 deficiency in inhalant use disorder, also connected to OCD).
- Not all supplements are created equal. Overview of common supplements.
- Why vitamins and minerals in their different forms matter genetically (e.g., folic acid vs. folate vs. methyl-folate).
- Copper dysregulation and mental health connections (schizophrenia, insomnia, etc.).
- Blood Glucose regulation to support anti-craving measures.
