Instructor: Josh Collins

Class Description:

This class would explore different interventions for trauma and addiction along with providing a basic framework for helping participants in “shifting the story” with the people they work with. After reviewing basic education about trauma and its prevalence in addiction, different trauma-specific interventions will be introduced (Seeking safety, grounding, Trauma-informed CBT, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Emotional Freedom technique; some for-familiarity purposes for participants to explore or get further training on). Attachment theory and polyvagal theory will be reviewed to assist in developing a lens to understand dysregulation. The concepts of parts (manager, firefighter, and exile) from internal family systems will be explored more in-depth. Finally, the idea of using our existing skills to help “shift the story” and change the narrative will be explored.
