This week, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) was in the Carteret High School cafeteria creating a chain to unite the students against bullying.
Each link on the chain was created by a student. On one side they wrote something which makes them unique and on the other, they wrote what they do or can do to prevent bullying. SADD students engaged their peers in this process and created a dialogue at each table they went to about the effects of bullying on individuals and the school environment.
There are approximately 250 links in the chain which was created in one day during lunch periods. The links have statements like "I will stop bullying when I see it", "Don't be a bystander", "I will support those who are getting bullied", "I will be there to listen to anyone who needs to talk" and "We need to stand together". The chain will be displayed over the next couple of weeks in the cafeteria under the sign, "CHS Unites Against Bullying", along with statistics and information about the extent and effects of bullying on our youth.
This activity is a part of the awareness raising activities that will lead up to the Bullying Prevention Walkathon on June 6th. The walk will be held at Carteret High School, Pathways entrance. Registration begins at 8:30 and the walk begins at 10.
