February was Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. About 1.5 million teens nationwide experience dating violence from a dating partner in a single year.

Pathways’ SADD club took charge of teen dating violence awareness month and spread education to their peers about the signs of teen dating violence and what to do if they or a friend were ever in a dating violence situation. SADD conducted a tabling event during the lunch periods to target the majority of the high school students and help bring awareness to the issue.

SADD students educated peers on the facts about dating violence, as well as traits of healthy relationships through quiz questions for which the students won a Hershey kiss.

Throughout the month SADD students conducted a flower sale event, the profits of which were donated to an organization that serves women who have been victims of violence. Pathways has also begun a monthly bathroom educational campaign starting with February and teen dating violence. Flyers were posted in every bathroom in the high school educating students about how to find for help if they were ever in a situation in which they felt unsafe with a romantic partner. The flyers also reminded students to look out for their friends well-being and that Pathways is always a resource for students to use whenever they need someone to confide in.
