HOLIDAY HOPE—Helping Families Enjoy Their Holiday

Sad-child
By Karen Boateng, Office Manager – Pathways Sadly the holidays can be one of the most difficult times for some families. Just the thought can provoke anxiety, depression and/or sadness within a household. It was with this in mind that Pathways SBYSP started “Holiday Hope”. The intention of this program is to help make the holidays just a little brighter for some of our students and their families. Families are selected with the help of school administration, faculty and other school staff.  The goal is to provide each family with prime necessities like food and toiletries. We do not provide assistance with toys or other gift type items, as we know that there are other resources for those items at this time of year (and we will provide that information for families too). Our purpose is to take some of the worry out of the holidays for families, so that even...

One Step Closer to College

One Step Closer to College
On October 28th   Carteret High School students were offered the opportunity to attend Part 1 of the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA) information session provided by Cheryl White, Associate University Director of Financial Aid at Rutgers. This is the second year that Mrs. White and her team has agreed to provide such a wonderful service to the students here at Carteret High School; helping them understand the FAFSA process and completing their application. Fathers Matter

Fathers Matter
Studies have shown that involvement of a father or a positive male role model in the lives of children has profound effects on them. Father-child interaction promotes a child’s physical well-being, perceptual ability and competency for relating with others. These children also demonstrate greater ability to take initiative and display self-control. In recognition of the #NJFATHERSMATTER initiative, PATHWAYS will sponsor a Free Bowling Event for Carteret Fathers / Significant Male Role Models & Youth (Carteret Middle School and High School students). This event will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, 2PM-5PM at the Woodbridge Bowling Center, 346 Main Street, Woodbridge, NJ. We hope your schedule will permit you to attend this event.

What's Next? Maybe Becoming a Yoga Instructor

What's Next? Maybe Becoming a Yoga Instructor
On Wednesday April 13th students were invited to PATHWAYS to learn how they could have a rewarding career as a yoga instructor. We welcomed representative, Munah Hayes from Ramapo College / Zufall Health; who was vibrant and provided tremendous insight on Yoga, its origin and its relevance today. It was great to see students as well as teachers and school administrators take an active part in this presentation. When asked how she felt about the presentation, student Taahirah Walker remarked “Munah Hayes was such an amazing speaker today. She explained to us the Yoga history and how it came to be so widespread throughout the states. Yoga, in Sanskrit, mean “YOLK or UNION” and I truly believe that if we all work together as one, the world would be so peaceful and kind. No matter if we are a human, creature, insect or any living being; we are all the same....
