Cultural competency is the lens through which we see the world. When addiction is present, it becomes imperative to sharpen our understanding of contextual variables due to the presence of stigma. This class will discuss the ways to individualize counseling in accordance with culture, gender and lifestyle choices. Not only is this a global criterion in Addiction Focused Counseling, but also is our ethical responsibility as practitioners. This class will teach participants how locate themselves with clients and families, and how to identify areas of both marginalization and privilege. Skills will be taught through large group and small group discussion on the essentials of understanding the nuances of cultural and it application to working with substance involved individuals and families.
This class will be delivered via Zoom. Instructions and links will be provided later.
Instructor: Joel Levine, LCSW, LPC, LCADC, LMFT
