This course will provide a survey of characteristics, assessment, intervention, and prevention of addictive behaviors with a primary examination of chemical dependency. This course reviews basic pharmacology, conceptualizations of alcohol and other drug problems, assessment, intervention, treatment, and prevention. Additionally, the influence of family environment and cultural background are explored as they relate to chemical use and abuse.
