On Tuesday February 4th, the students of the P.A.L.S community service club visited Heavens Helpers Food Pantry in Woodbridge.
Heavens Helpers offers dry goods, meats, fresh fruits, veggies, and dairy when available on the first Tuesday of every month to families in need. The students were tasked with sorting and packaging the food to be distributed to over 70 families. The students were the primary volunteers that day and were given many tasks to complete. The coordinators were very appreciative of the student's hard work and organizational skills.
The students were grateful for the experience to give back to the community. P.A.L.S (partnering, achieving, leading, supporting) offers the Carteret High school students the opportunity to positively impact their environment through volunteering and community service.
According to author Mary Ann Barge from PrepScholar, community service enhances student's personal development. Students are able to learn about their personal strengths and weaknesses while working with others. Community service also allows students to build on their leadership, communication and team work skills.
