Written By Jenna Bonstein, Wellspring Preventionist August 31st is Overdose Awareness Day, an international day designated to acknowledge the many lives we as a nation lost to premature deaths from drugs, the majority of which are attributable to the use of opioids – most of them avoidable. On this emotional day, many families, friends gather together to support one another and share their personal struggles from grief and pain of losing a loved one to an overdose. This occasion gives people the opportunity to share their memories, bringing an empathic heart, knowing what it’s like. There is a strong presence of both grief and hope that fills the atmosphere on this night as many towns participate in a candlelight vigil and memorial service.
