Becoming Wiser with Piscataway Seniors

WISE-2
By: Gina-Marie Miraglia This summer, the Piscataway Senior Center hosted the Wellness Initiative for Senior Education program (WISE). It was delivered by Wellspring Center for Prevention’s Preventionists Helen Varvi and Gina-Marie Miraglia. The WISE program met once a week for six weeks and is designed to celebrate healthy aging, healthy lifestyle choices, and avoiding substance abuse through drug education. Within our lessons the senior adults made posters, role played, and participated in fun games; making the WISE program well-received and an enjoyable way to spend a part of the day. Even though our lessons were educational, we all bonded with one another through sharing personal experiences, smiles, and laughter. This is a group of friends...

This year, camp was composed of 47 Carteret youth between the ages of 13-18 who came daily for four weeks from 9:30-2:30. Participants pay a small registration fee and do not have to pay any additional fees for weekly trips. A delicious and nutritious lunch is also provided free...
