March 2017 is Problem Gambling Awareness Month
The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, Inc. (CCGNJ) has announced that Governor Chris Christie has proclaimed March 2017 as Problem Gambling Awareness Month in NJ, marking the official start of the month's activities. The Governor urged all NJ residents to help spread the message that there is help for problem gamblers through treatment as well as support for those who are in recovery and their families. "The goal of this month is to increase awareness about problem and disordered gambling among health professionals, problem gamblers and the general public and where they can go for help," said Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey. The theme for 2017 is "Problem Gambling: "HAVE THE CONVERSATION". The month focuses on the prevention, treatment and hope available to the problem gambler and their families. New Web-Based Resources for Older Adults with Gambling Issues Launched
Thanks to a grant from the Council on Compulsive Gambling New Jersey (CCGNJ), Wellspring Center for Prevention has launched a new web portal that provides resources and information on older adults and gambling. The new portal can be accessed at http://wellspringprevention.org/information-referral/older-adults-gambling . “We are thankful to the CCGNJ for enabling us to provide this important resource to the community,” stated Wellspring Executive Director Ezra Helfand. “Gambling in New Jersey is on the rise and has taken its toll on some of its most vulnerable citizens, older adults. This portal provides a handy resource to older adults, their families and caregivers.” The portal features useful documents which are available for download in PDF format. Included are brochures such as “Freedom from Problem Gambling” and “Loved One’s Guide”. Great News! Older Adults and Gambling Conference now offers four (4) CEUS.
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER. REGISTRATION BY FAX NOT AVAILABLE. The Conference has been approved for four (4) renewal hours toward the Addiction Counselor License and Certification (LCADC and CADC) in New Jersey.  They are also approved for renewal CEU's needed for the CPS, MFT, MFT-Permit, LPC, LAC, and LRC credentials The conference is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15, 2016 and it will be held at the Middlesex County Fire Academy. Expected audience will include county OADS staff, local Office on Aging directors, library staffs, YMCA and senior center staff providing senior programming and local health providers, including community nursing staff from RWJ University Medical Center, St. Peter’s Medical Center, JFK Medical Center and Raritan Bay Medical Center who have responsibility for providing medical care to older adults in senior housing developments in Middlesex County.
