Written by Jenny Silverstone Bullying can happen in different places, it could be at school, whether in class, in the hallways, or at the playground. Maybe your child attends an after-school club, plays a sport, or goes to the mall. Bullies generally operate in areas where youths congregate and there is minimal adult supervision. With technology , even the home is no longer a safe haven. Your child could be the victim of cyber-bullying via online devices or cell phones. In the U.S., between 20 and 28 percent of children in grades 6-12 will experience bullying. Less than half the children in America, about 40 percent, that are bullied will report it to an adult ( source ). In surveys, approximately 30 percent of children admit to having bullied others. Dads Bounce into their Children’s Lives

Written by Lauren Balkan, LCSW There is a great deal of research that supports that children who have an involved father or a supportive involved father figure, are more likely to be emotionally secure, have better academic outcomes and more positive social connections. Pathways has been running fatherhood events for the past several years to give fathers and father figures support in getting more involved in their child’s life. We offer fun, interactive bonding experiences that allow father/father figures to have some focused time alone with their child or children. The activities have been offered to youth in the district starting in third grade and going through high school. On March 29th, Pathways took 70 Carteret residents to the Bounce Factory in Warren, NJ. I am sure that by now you probably know that drugs and alcohol present a menacing threat to your children. What you may not realize is that that you represent the crucial element in preventing your children from suffering the harm that substance abuse can bring. Fact is that a healthy talk at home represents the best way of setting your children down the path to a future that is free of alcohol and drug abuse. Keep in mind that your children are attending sporting events, go to parties, participate in school dances, and more likely than not, the topic of drug or alcohol use is likely to come up. Which is why keeping the communications channels open with your children, is paramount.
