To kick off Pride Month, Pathways Gender & Sexuality Alliance had the privilege of joining the Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice during the parade through Asbury Park at New Jersey's annual LGBTQ Pride Celebration on June 2nd.This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, and the streets of Asbury Park were flooded with pride. Carteret high school students marched through town and paraded on a float. The GSA was accompanied by high school alumni, Alissa Radford, who was the voice of many students back in 2015, stating the needs for a GSA at Carteret High School. Day to day life of the Carteret GSA involves peer support, creating a "family" at school and advocating for the LGBTQ community. June 2nd was about something even greater for these students, as one senior described feeling "something truly amazing and extraordinary to have the opportunity to go out and see the amount of support out in the open. It felt great to see that I'm not alone in the community, especially because there aren't any other transgender students out in my community. It was an uplifting experience."

Pathways GSA will continue to celebrate Pride Month on Saturday June 15th with an annual flag raising ceremony which will take place at the Carteret Memorial Municipal Building at 11AM.
