CHS Students Set the Bar High for 2019

By Jeanne Neuwirth, LCSW, SADD Club Advisor

Pathways’ Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Club hung a glittery banner reminiscent of a New Year’s Eve disco ball in the Carteret High School cafeteria and invited students to ponder the question, “What SADD Banner Happy New Year 2019 Disco BallAre You Working Towards in 2019?

This prompted students to consider their futures in terms of everyday matters but also in broader ways such as what kind of person they strive to be. Throughout four lunch periods nearly one hundred shared their positive goals for 2019 on the poster.

Students offered all kinds of ambitions—academic goals, mental health goals, and physical goals.

Some goals were:

  • “Honor Roll all 4 marking periods”
  • “Get better at basketball”
  • “Ignore negative energy”
  • “Pass chemistry”
  • “To find happiness in everything I do!”
  • “Get a scholarship”
  • “Improve as a person, and to stop procrastinating”
  • “Get more friends”
  • “Get into my dream school and get my license”
  • “More confidence”
  • “Focus on mental health and college”
  • “Become a Rockstar”

Studies show that setting goals is important—those who wrote down their goals were shown to accomplish significantly more than those who did not. Perhaps it’s time to take a page out of SADD Club’s playbook--have you considered what you are working towards in 2019?

NOTE: Thank you to the SADD artists who worked hard to create this dazzling poster!
